In December 2010, Marco Moebus has finished his PhD by defending his thesis on “Object Detection and Classification for Mobile Platforms Using 3D Acoustic Imaging”.

Mouhammad Alhumaidi has joined the team of Signal Processing Group as a PhD student.

In November 2010, Tobias Wolff has finished his PhD on “Design and Analysis of Beamformer-Postfilter-Systems”.

Prof. Francesco Gianfelici from the Faculty of Engineering, Science and Medicine, Aalborg University, Denmark, is visiting SPG on 10-11 November 2010.

Prof. Kazuya Takeda from the Graduate School of Information Science, Nagoya University, Nagoya, Japan, is visiting SPG on 27.-29. October 2010.

Prof. Zoubir is keynote speaker at the 10th IEEE International Conference on Signal Processing (ICSP'10) at Oct 24-28 Beijing, China.

In August 2010, Christian successfully defended his PhD thesis on “Advances in Detection and Classification for Through-the-Wall Radar Imaging” with summa cum laude.

In June 2010, Weaam Alkhaldi has finished his PhD with “summa cum laude” for his thesis “Statistical Signal and Image Processing Techniques in Corneal Modeling”.

A total of 10 academics from TU Darmstadt (9) and Universität Kassel (1) secured a 4.5 million Euro grant to perform fundamental research on cooperative sensor communication (COCOON). The duration of the grant is 3 years. Prof. Abdelhak M. Zoubir is the coordinator of the project.

The Center for Advanced Communications (CAC) at Villanova University, USA, has broadened its relationships with several prominent international institutions.

Prof. Zoubir gives a talk at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, North Carolina State University on 13 May 2010.

The IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) has announced the 2010 Class of Distinguished Lecturers. Five well-known scientists were honored and will give lectures throughout the world in the next two years.

Prof. Zoubir is currently the Chair of the Signal Processing Theory and Methods (SPTM) Technical Committee (TC) of the IEEE Signal Processing Society (IEEE-SPS).

Prof. Haykin stays in Darmstadt for a two-day visit. From Sep 14-15, Prof. Haykin will visit the Institute of Telecommunications. On monday evening, he will give a public lecture on cognitive systems.

Prof. Zoubir gave a keynote about advances on bootstrap methods in signal processing at the IEEE Workshop on Statistical Signal Processing, Cardiff, UK on Sep 3rd, 2009.
