Study participants for biomedical research wanted

2017/08/01

Dear Students and Colleagues,

We seek your support to conduct biomedical research. In collaboration with Evonik, we are going to conduct a study with the aim of estimating the blood pressure and the arterial stiffness by use of optical sensors. The duration of the study is four weeks (19 June – 20 July), and it is comprised of 7 signal acquisitions, each of a duration of approx. 15-20 minutes. The measured data is anonymized, and the recordings take place in our biomedical laboratory in room S3|06 37.

Thanks to our signal processing algorithms which we have recently developed, it will be possible to assess the blood pressure and the arterial stiffness via optical sensors that are commonly implemented, e.g. in smart phones or wrist bands. A high blood pressure or an increased arterial stiffness value can be indicators of vascular diseases. The screening of these parameters can help to provide an early response and prevent serious illnesses.

In addition to the development of the algorithms for the estimation of the blood pressure and the arterial stiffness, we are also interested in evaluating whether it is possible to detect even small changes in these parameters as a result of a dietary supplement intake. This commercially available dietary supplement called MEDOX®, which is in form of capsules that should be taken daily, is based on wild Scandinavian blueberries and black currant. Every participant of the study is provided with capsules whose market value is approx. € 80,-.

Detailed information on MEDOX® can be found here:

We would be very happy if you could support us and commit to be subject for the entire duration of the study. If you would like to find out more, or already know that you would like to participate, please reply to this email or directly contact us in person before 5 pm tomorrow (Wednesday).

Please feel free to contact us for any request or need.

Best regards,
