In October 2015, Ann-Kathrin commenced working on her PhD in the Signal Processing Group. Her research interest is in the field of radar signal processing for gait analysis with application to medical diagnosis, elderly care and smart homes. The research goal is to extract (medically relevant) features from the time-frequency representations of the backscattered radar signals, i.e., from the so-called micro-Doppler signatures, to assess the observed gait and detect changes in gait patterns.

In May 2015, Ann-Kathrin graduated with a M.Sc. from Technische Universität Darmstadt in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology with a major in Communication and Sensor Networks. Her master thesis, related to biomedical applications of signal processing, was concerned with “Particle Filter for Image-based Photometric Glucose Measurement in Hand-held Devices”.

Ann-Kathrin received her B.Eng. in Media Technologies from RheinMain University of Applied Sciences in August 2011. In cooperation with the Panasonic R&D Center Germany GmbH, Langen, she wrote her bachelor thesis on “Adaptive Coefficients for Deblocking Filter within Hybrid Video Coding”. With her work, she contributed to the international standardization process of the new video coding standard H.265. Further, her work at Panasonic was concerned with the analysis of the state-of-the-art intra prediction within hybrid video coding, as well as with analysis of stereoscopic video.
