Ann-Kathrin received her B.Eng. in Media Technologies from RheinMain University of Applied Sciences in August 2011. In cooperation with the Panasonic R&D Center Germany GmbH, Langen, she wrote her bachelor thesis on “Adaptive Coefficients for Deblocking Filter within Hybrid Video Coding”. With her work, she contributed to the international standardization process of the new video coding standard H.265. Further, her work at Panasonic was concerned with the analysis of the state-of-the-art intra prediction within hybrid video coding, as well as with analysis of stereoscopic video.

In October 2012, Ann-Kathrin started the masters program at Technische Universität Darmstadt in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology with a major in Communication and Sensor Networks. She graduated with a M.Sc. in May 2015. Her master thesis, related to biomedical applications of signal processing, was concerned with “Particle Filter for Image-based Photometric Glucose Measurement in Hand-held Devices”.

In October 2015, she commenced working on her PhD in the Signal Processing Group. Her research interest is in the field of radar signal processing for human gait recognition with application to medical diagnosis, elderly care and smart homes. She is particularly interested in extracting (interpretable) features from time-frequency representations of the backscattered radar signals to enable classification of the observed motions.
