Michael Fauß studied Electrical Engineering in Darmstadt and Munich and received his Diploma from TU Munich in December 2010. From March to September 2011 Michael worked as a research assistant at the Associate Institute for Signal Processing at TU Munich. Since November 2011 he is a member of the Signal Processing Group at TU Darmstadt. In March 2016 he received his doctoral degree and has since been working as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow.


The focus of Michael's research is on sequential analysis and statistical robustness. Sequential analysis is concerned with statistical inference in scenarios where the number of available samples is not given a priori, but is increasing over time. The aim is typically to maximize the efficiency of the inference procedure such that it uses as few samples as possible. Robust statistics, on the other hand, sacrifices some efficiency under ideal conditions in order to be less sensitive to deviations from the ideal case. Hence, a robust procedure continues to work reasonably well, even if the underlying model holds only approximately. Exploring and exploiting possible synergies of both approaches is at the core of Michael's work.
